'artists' incredibly liberally, as an artist is someone who expresses
themselves through creativity and hard work, and talent (something
with applies to the extremely small minority of mainstream music
today). I mean, what happened to musicians putting thought into their
music, being proud of a song they release? The respect?
Back in the time of The Beatles, at a concert the artist would just
have to be on stage performing. No skimpy dancers, no pyrotechnics, no
acrobatics. I know the technology is supremely more advanced but WHY
do artists today feel that these fireworks are necessary? I think
there is something wrong with your music if the audience wouldn't be
satisfied with just you on stage playing your song.
The same applies for music videos.
And the so called "songs" now: all auto-tuned and contorted with
digital media; I cannot tell when a voice is real or not.
I can't think of one band that has emerged in the last 6 or 7 years
that will stay with me and change my life. Will you be telling your
grandchildren of Kesha or Jessie J or Pitbull, and how their music was
'art'?
It just makes me so sad because it seems we will never see a golden
age in music again. Is there no hope anymore?
:(
Don't write me off as some middle-aged sook, I'm still under the age
of 20. No, I'm not just arguing out of my own music taste, I'm saying
then when you compare someone like Kesha and her songs to The Beatles
- even if you hate The Beatles and love Kesha - you MUST be able to
clearly see the difference in quality and talent.
